A
few words about the flower photos on
this page. If you haven't guessed, flowers are one of my
passions ! Growing up in North
Carolina, my parents and I lived
with my Grandmother until I was about 7 years old. Some
of my earliest memories are of my grandmother out in the
backyard tending her Cosmos & Black-Eyed Susans. I
loved to wander through the rows of flowers and pick
bouquets to take inside - or just to look at.
Then
when my parents and I
moved to our new house, they spent countless hours
landscaping and planting many different varieties of
flowers. Dad loved Dahlias, Azaleas, and Roses with a
passion and we had them in every color imaginable - and
lots of them! Mom usually planted the annuals and I can
still recall the sweet smell of the Petunias and Four
O'Clocks on a warm summer evening, mingled with the sweet
wild Honeysuckle. On Sundays, Mom and Dad would cut
Dahlias and arrange a bouquet to take to church .From
Grandmother's, they brought
velvety purple Irises, orange Tiger Lilies, and plum
colored Peonies. In the spring, there were Daffodills,
Crocuses, Tulips, and Lilly of The Valley. Then of course
there were the flowering fruit trees - Peach, Apple,
Pear, and Plum. Both Dad's and Mom's relatives and
parents, grew up on farms, and Mom & Dad had the
greenest thumbs I ever saw!!! Thanks Mom & Dad for
giving me my love of flowers!
For
years, I grew many kinds of flowers
here in Anchorage
and continued the tradition that my relatives started. I
now experience my passion for flowers through the lens of
a camera. Some of the flower photos are of flowers I have
grown - others are from gardens all over Anchorage,
including private, business, corporate, and city. Soon
summer will be upon us, and I will be out with my camera
roaming to catch that 'special' flower. Who knows - it
just might be yours? Enjoy the photos!!!
