to the Family Tree - which has been put together
by several cousins
and their families, (1st
generation) Frederick Dean is said to
have been born in
Dublin, Ireland (year unknown), and he died in 1798 in Guilford
Co. North Carolina.
Frederick's son (2nd generation) Solomon
Dean, is believed to have been born in
Dublin, Ireland (year unknown) and he came to the U.S. in 1760 as
an infant,
settling in Guilford Co. in 1770. At some point later, Solomon
moved to neighboring
Forsyth County (or the county lines changed), where his son (3rd generation)
Archelous Dean was born.

The
family surname seems to have been spelled alternately,
DEAN/DEEN
It appears as DEEN in the
1850 Forsyth Co. NC, Heads of Households census,
but prior to that, 1st generation Frederick's surname
was spelled DEAN.
At some point after 1850, the spelling changed back to DEAN - at least
for some of the DEAN
descendants. It is suspected
that some DEAN
descendants who migrated to other states, may have retained the DEEN
spelling of the surname.
