NC LINKS!
DEAN is a surname that has existed in North Carolina genealogy for well over
250 years. The DEAN 'clan' which descended from Frederick, settled predominantly
in the counties of
Guilford, Stokes, Forsyth, and Surry in North Carolina.
There also exits a marriage record in Granville county for one of our DEANS,
but as of yet, no other direct connection to other Granville DEANS
has been established.

This site is devoted to the preservation of the genealogy and history of the
family of DEANS, that descended from
Frederick DEAN/DEEN. According
to the family tree, Frederick is believed to have come to the United States
from Dublin, Ireland in approximately 1760. It is not yet known where he was
in America, before settling in Guilford County, North Carolina,
in approximately, 1770.

Cemetery Markers

(Names & Some Locations)

Welcome to the Dean Family Homepage of Forsyth County,
North Carolina.
I started searching approximately eight years ago
for genealogy information on my DEAN ancestors, who were born in
Forsyth County, NC. Since that time, with much help from cousins
I met on the internet, I have learned of a large family of DEANS
I never knew existed.

* * * * *
Many thanks to: cousin
Bobby for working
on the historical documents and creating the database; to
Becky
for cemetery photos and documents; to
Lewis for the family tree
treasure; and to
John (JR) for his professional genealogy advice,
photos and information.

My Grandfather CHARLES LOTEN DEAN, and my father
CLETUS EDWIN DEAN, along with many other of my DEAN
relatives, were born in Forsyth County NC. I was born Anita DEAN,
and grew up in Greensboro (Guilford County), North Carolina. In
1963 I moved to the "Bush Country" of
Alaska with my first husband,
after Nursing School at North Carolina Baptist Hospital, in Winston
Salem, N. C.

It was an adventurous and exciting two years -- no radio, telephone,
television, or newspaper; and in 1964 there was the
'Great Alaska Earthquake'! After moving back east for 3 years in
1965 -- to the 'Lower 48' or 'Outside' -- we then moved back to
'The Last Frontier' in 1968 for good. I had been bitten by the
deadly 'Frontier Spirit' bug!

I've always had the 'frontier' type of adventurous spirit and have
wondered if that was the same kind of mind-set that led my ancestors,
to leave Europe about 250 years ago and settle in the fertile Piedmont
region of North Carolina.

This curiosity or wondering has generated the desire to discover and
preserve the DEAN Family history for my children and grandchildren.
They have grown up in Alaska and not had the luxury of a large extended
family, to hear and share family stories with.

So.....welcome to the 'two worlds' of my family of DEANS -- North
Carolina my home state and Alaska, the birth home of my DEAN
'Clan'. Enter in and learn -- as I do -- about their migration and homes,
their interests and occupations...and the history of this unique 'Clan'
of DEANS.

I hope to hear from those of you who are searching for your DEAN
ancestors. Also, many thanks to my son
Hugh Denny, for jump-starting
Mom into the computer generation and making all of this possible. He
designed my original one page web site and answered the phone late
at night when mom was stuck, trying to learn web page 'stuff'.

Thanks to his patient instruction, I took over the design and maintenance
of the site about three years ago and started adding new original graphics
and more pages. For me, it has become a continual process to keep the new
information that I receive, added to the site. It is a love & passion.
I trust you will enjoy your visit.

About The Information On This Web Site
Many people have helped to gather the genealogy information that is posted on this Web site.
Every effort
is made to be as accurate as possible. Since much of family tree information is very
dependant upon 'collective family memory' - and this
'memory' deteriorates amazingly over time -
please be sure to verify independently, any information found on this web site. If you find any
information that you can document by primary sources to be incorrect, please be sure to
let us know.

** NOTE **
The Dean Family Homepage is a collaborative genealogy effort between
Anita DEAN Denny and Bobby G. Lykins Jr.
Bobby & I met two years ago, as a result of queries we had both
posted on
Forsyth & Guilford Co. NC web sites. Since then, we have discovered
that we both are descendants of
Frederick Dean (sometimes spelled Deen)
who settled in
Guilford Co. NC in 1770, and that we descended from
Frederick's
son
Solomon Deen.

Check Out
Cousin Bobby Lykin's Great Web Site!
You will want to visit his
"Claim It" page!

Also, we could have never come this far, this fast - without the invaluable help
of cousins,
H. Lewis Dean, and John (JR) Rhodes, whom we also met on the internet!
Also,
Gerald Dean has provided us with information on his 'lost'
but now found, Wesley Dean! Recently, we met
Becky Dean who has been providing us with copies of Dean documents and cemetery photos.
Thanks cousins for all your hard work!!!
